Contesting from Wayanad to send a message to south India: Rahul Gandhi
New Delhi, Apr 2 (IBNS): Explaining his decision to contest from Kerala's minority-dominated Wayanad constituency besides Uttar Pradesh's Amethi, Congress chief Rahul Gandhi said he wanted to give a message to south India which feels hostile under the Narendra Modi government.
"There was a demand for me. There is a feeling in south India that they are not being carried by the current government. They feel hostile so I wanted to send a message to south India," Gandhi said without stating why he chose Kerala among all south Indian states.
Gandhi's decision has, however, upset the Left and prompted Prime Minister Narendra Modi to take a jibe at the Congress president.
Left, which maintains a warm relationship with Congress, is the ruling party in Kerala.

Bringing the majority-minority issue, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday said from an election rally, "The term Hindu Terrorism was coined by Sushil Kumar Shinde, the then home minister. However, a court verdict recently made it clear that Congress insulted the country. It insulted the peaceful Hindu community. This community believes the world as one family."
"This is the reason he (Rahul Gandhi) didn’t dare to contest from a seat where we (Hindu) are in majority numbers. Rather, he decided to contest from a seat (Wayanad) where we are in minority."
