COVID: India logs 71-day-lowest 80,834 new cases, 3,303 deaths in one day

New Delhi/IBNS: India has reported 80,834 fresh Covid-19 cases, lowest after 71 days, and 3,303 fatalities in the past 24 hours, according to the Union Health Ministry on Sunday.

The fresh addition took the active case tally to 10,26,159, while the death toll soared to 3,70,384 and the cumulative caseload now stands at 2,94,39,989.

On a positive note, recoveries continued to outnumber the daily new cases for 31 consecutive days with 1,32,062 patients being recovered during the past day, hence pushing the recovery rate to 95.26 per cent.

Country's testing capacity has also been substantially ramped up with a total of 37.81 crore tests being conducted so far in the nation.

Under the nationwide vaccination drive, a total of 25,31,95,048 people have been vaccinated across the country till now with 34,84,239 being inoculated in the last 24 hours.

Reports from States: 

Arunachal Pradesh: 

As many as 298 people have tested positive for COVID-19 in Arunachal Pradesh in the last 24 hours, taking the state's caseload to 31,148, while the death toll rose to 143 as five more succumbed to the virus.

Out of the new positive cases, Itanagar Capital Complex reported the highest at 55, followed by Upper Subansiri 39 and West Kameng 29, as per the bulletin issued by the state Directorate of Health Services.

Barring 117, all the patients are asymptomatic.

According to the bulletin, of the five casualties reported, one each was from Itanagar Capital Complex, Tawang, Changlang, Lower Siang and Lower Subansiri.

On a positive note, 380 patients have recovered, taking the total recoveries to 27,818. The recovery rate is over 89 percent.

Active cases stood at 3,187. 

Sikkim: 

Sikkim reported 167 new COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours, raising the state's caseload to 18,257, Sonam Bhutia, Information, Education and Communication Officer, Health Department said on Sunday.

The active case tally in the state stands at 3,783.

State's death toll still stands at 281, Ms Bhutia informed.

Puducherry: 

As many as 402 more people were tested positive for Coronavirus and seven patients died in the Union Territory since the last 24 hours, ending at 10 AM on Sunday, taking the tally of infection cases to 1,12,528 and death toll to 1,684.

The infection and death cases were coming down in the UT as 442 new cases and nine deaths reported on Saturday.

According to the COVID- 19 status released by the health department here, of the 8,724 swab sample tests conducted yesterday, 402 persons tested positive for the virus.

About 343 new cases were in Puducherry region, 42 in Karaikal region,10 in Yanam region and seven in Mahe region.

In the last 24 hours, 809 persons were discharged and 648 of them were from Puducherry region, 121 from Karaikal region, 30 from Yanam region and 10 from Mahe region.

Presently, 677 patients are being treated in Puducherry region, 72 in Karaikal region, 29 in Yanam region and 56 in Mahe region. Another, 4,497 persons tested positive for COVID-19 are taking treatment under home isolation in all the four regions of UT.

Odisha

Covid tally in Odisha surged to 8,51,782 with the detection of 4,469 new infection cases in the last 24 hours. 

The fatalities in the state also rose to 3,302 with 45 more covid patients succumbing to the virus in the past day.

Health and family Welfare department sources said of the 4469 new cases, 2546 were reported from the quarantine centres and 1923 are local contact cases.

Khordha district has the maximum number of 612 cases followed by Cuttack ( 413),Jajpur ( 370) Balasore (318) and Dhenkanal ( 252).

At least 15 of 30 districts in the state reported less than one hundred positive cases in the past 24 hours.
