Delhi to start ‘Plasma Bank’; Kejriwal urges nCoV survivors to donate

New Delhi/UNI: Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Monday said the Delhi government has decided to start a ‘Plasma Bank’ in the capital for the treatment of Corona patients and urged Covid-19 recovered patients to save lives by donating their plasma.

Addressing a digital briefing on the Covid-19 situation, the CM said, ”The 'Plasma Bank' will start operation in the next two days. I appeal to Covid-19 recovered patients to donate their plasma. We will also arrange conveyance to the plasma bank for those willing to donate.”

“I request all those who have recovered from coronavirus that it's rare that you get to save lives. I request you to please come forward and donate. This is the true service of god," the Chief Minister said.

Mr Kejriwal said the state government has, so far, conducted clinical trails of plasma therapy on 29 coronavirus patients and that result was encouraging.

“This 'Plasma Bank' will be set-up at the Institute of Liver and Biliary Sciences (ILBS) in south Delhi’s Vasant Kunj and it will serve the purpose of coordination between plasma donors and recipients. Anyone who needs plasma will need a recommendation from a doctor,” he said.

“If you go to a plasma bank to donate, there is no risk. We will arrange conveyance for you to go there and donate. We will announce numbers in a few days for this system," Mr Kejriwal said.

He said that a helpline will be set up by the government for queries related to donation of plasma.

Taking to micro-blogging site Twitter, deputy CM Manish Sisodia said, ”The Delhi government is building the country's first plasma bank. People who are cured of corona must donate their plasma. There is very little chance to save someone's life. There is no greater religion than this.”

Delhi, which has the second highest number of Covid-19 cases in the country after Maharashtra, recorded 2,889 new infections and 65 deaths on Sunday, taking the tally to 83,077 cases.
