Kashmir: Police arrest 10 drug peddlers, recover huge quantity of contraband in Budgam

Srinagar, July 3 (UNI): Ten drug peddlers were arrested in separate operations by the police in the central Kashmir district of Budgam, a police spokesman said on Wednesday.

He said large quantity of contraband, including charas, poppy straw and Codiene Phosphate were recovered.

Giving details, he said a Police Party of Police Station (PS) Budgam while checking at Nasrullahpora arrested three drug peddlers who were involved in supplying drugs, especially to students of the area.

The drug peddlers were identified as Mehrajuddin Mir, resident of Choon Budgam, Syed Arsalaan, resident of Gotapora Budgam residing at Housing Colony Ompora and Baid Shafi Sofi, resident of Housing Colony Ompora.

Psychotropic drugs/ substances were recovered from their possession. On their disclosure, another notorious drug peddler Gulzar Ahmad Dar alias Gul Saka resident of Naidgam Budgam was also apprehended. Powderded Fukki (poppy) and other narcotic/psychotropic & drug bottles were recovered from his possession.

He said in this regard, case FIR No 198/2019 U/S 8/21, 15 NDPS Act has been registered in PS Budgam and investigation is in progress.

Meanwhile, a police party of Police Post (PP) Narbal, during naka checking at Narbal bridge intercepted a vehicle. During checking, 320 bottles of banned substance Codiene Phosphate , 24 capsules of sposmoproxivon and fake currency worth Rs 24,000 was recovered from the possession of Mudasir Ahmad Mir, Ghulam Rasool Mir, resident of Karhama kunzer, Zubair Ahmad Mir, resident o Mazhama and Sajad Ahmad Hajam, resident of chaira-guen Magam.

In this regard, a case FiR No. 88/2019 of PS Magam U/S 8/22 NDPS , 307 RPC and 489-CRPC has been registered and investigation set into the motion.

A police party of PS Chadoora arrested 2 drug peddlers namely Bashir Ahmad Sofi and Ghulam Mohammad Ganie residents of Patrigam.

He said 21 kgs of Poppy straw was recovered from their possession.

In this regard Case FIR No.118/2019 U/s 8/15 NDPS Act has been registered in P/S Chadoora and investigation taken up.

A Police Party of PS Khansahib apprehended a notorious drug peddler identified as Ghulam Hassan sheikh alias Hassan Lala, resident of Yarikah. During his frisking 120 grams of cannabis (charas) was recovered.

In this regard, a case FIR NO: 104/2019 U/S - 8/20 NDPS stands registered and investigation set on motion.

Common people have hailed the ongoing drive initiated by Budgam police to eradicate drug menace from the district.

Police have appealed the general public to share any kind of information related to drug abuse with local police.
