Kerala: Forest watcher killed, two injured in wild elephant attack
Palakkad, Apr 27 (UNI) A forest watcher was killed and two others injured when a wild elephant attacked them during an attempt to chase away the jumbos that strayed into human habitats at Walayar in this district on Friday evening.
Mohanan (58), a temporary watcher of Forest department, of Kannod near Kanchikode was trampled to death by elephant during the attempt to drive two wild elephants back into the forest.
Viswanathan (33) of Chenkal Aadivasi colony and Sasi (36), a native of Kannur who were injured in the elephant attack were rescued and admitted to District hospital at Palakkad.
Mohanan fell down when the elephants turned against the nine-member team who were attempting to drive the elephants back. He was trampled to death by one of the wild jumbos.
It may be recalled that nine persons including a women were killed and 19 persons injured in wild elephant attacks in Kanchikode-Walayar region in this district during the past two years.
