Lawrence Bishnoi to be questioned over Sidhu Moosewala killing
New Delhi: Jailed gangster Lawrence Bishnoi and some others will be questioned by Delhi Police Special Cell in connection with murder of singer-turned-politician Congress leader Shubhdeep Singh Sidhu aka Sidhu Moosewala, Tihar Jail sources said.
According to the sources, some other gangsters' names have also cropped up. It is said that Shahrukh, who is in Tihar jail, will also be questioned by Delhi Police in this connection. Shahrukh was arrested a few months back by Delhi police Special Cell from Punjab.
Earlier, Canada-based gangster Goldy Brar claimed responsibility for the death of Sidhu Moosewala. Bishnoi has a close relation with Brar.
Police suspected involvement of gangsters in the attack as many goons settled abroad had made ransom calls to several Punjabi actors and singers recently.
On Monday, CM Mann announced setting up of Judicial Commission under the sitting judge of Punjab and Haryana High Court to probe the killing of Moosewala.
On Sunday, a day after his security cover was curtailed by the Bhagwant Mann-led AAP government Moosewala was ambushed and shot dead in Jahawarke village of Mansa district in Punjab.
The 28-year-old singer left his house around 4.30 pm with two others. He was driving a Mahindra Thar SUV, and according to the police his father was following him in another car.
CCTV footage on social media and other media has showed two cars trailing the SUV. The video has not been verified by the state police. When the SUV reached the village Jawaharke, it was intercepted and blocked by two cars, as per reports.
There was heavy firing from the front on Moosewala and he died on the spot. Villagers at first took it for firecrackers but soon raced to the spot. His father took him to hospital, where he was declared dead.
The police initially said the killing appeared to be revenge for the murder of an Akali leader, Vicky Middukhera, last year.
Moosewala's father has demanded a CBI and a National Investigation Agency investigation into his son's murder.
The Punjab government had cut down the security of over 400 VIPs, including the Punjabi singer, on Saturday. Two police gunmen out of four deployed for the security of Moosewala were withdrawn.
Earlier in the morning, the Delhi unit of the Congress staged a protest here over the brutal killing. Members of the Congress party-led by its Delhi president Anil Kumar Choudhary, holding placards and banners, held the demonstration outside the residence of Chief Minister and AAP national convener Arvind Kejriwal, demanding dismissal of the Bhagwant Mann-led government in Punjab over the incident.
"There is 'jungle raj' in Punjab. We are demanding dismissal of the kathputli (puppet) government in Punjab," Chaudhary told reporters here.
Attacking the AAP government in Punjab over curtailing his security cover, the Delhi Congress chief said, "Why was Moosewala's security's cover cut down ? He was an inspiration to the youth of Punjab. Just for 'image' building, the Mann-led government withdrew the security cover of 424 prominent people."
