Mamata Banerjee calls meeting with PM Modi in New Delhi as 'fruitful'

New Delhi, Sept 18 (IBNS): West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi and described her meeting as 'fruitful'.

"The meeting was fruitful," Banerjee told reporters after the meeting.

She said the issue of changing the name of West Bengal was discussed with the PM.

"He is not against it and we need to reach a stand at one point in future," she said.

"It was entirely a state government's meeting with the Centre," Banerjee said.

Mamata Banerjee said the National Register of Citizens (NRC) issue of Assam was not discussed during the meeting.

"We did not discuss NRC issue," she said.

Interestingly,  Mamata Banerjee met Prime Minister Narendra Modi's wife Jasodaben at the Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport on Monday and they exchanged greetings.

Reportedly, the meeting was an unplanned one and Mamata happened to come across the Prime Minister's wife when she was about to board her flight to New Delhi. The Chief Minister gifted her a sari during the brief meeting.

Jasodaben, a retired teacher, was returning after a two-day visit to Dhanbad in Jharkhand.

Mamata Banerjee, who is considered as one of the biggest political foes of Modi and the Centre, had earlier skipped the oath-taking ceremony of the PM in May.

BJP and Mamata Banerjee's Trinamool Congress are engaged in a bitter turf battle in West Bengal.
