Modi has become friend of ours: Donald Trump on the sidelines of ASEAN
Manila, Nov 13 (IBNS) : Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday held meeting with US President Donald Trump discussing various issues on the sidelines of the ASEAN summit in the Philippines.
"Strengthening global strategic partnership. PM @narendramodi had a warm and productive meeting with President @realDonaldTrump on the margins of 31st ASEAN and related Summits. Discussed bilateral, regional and global issues of mutual interest," MEA said on its tweeter page.
The meeting in the Philippines capital came a day after officials of India, the US, Japan and Australia held talks to give shape to the quadrilateral alliance for a free, open and inclusive Indo-Pacific region.
According to media reports, during the one-to-one meeting, Trump said Modi has “become a friend of ours”. He also praised Modi.
The PM said relations between the U.S. and India are “growing very rapidly” and “getting deeper and more comprehensive.”
Modi said Trump “has expressed a very high opinion of India” in his travels.
Media reports said the two leaders are understood to have discussed the security scenario in the region besides several other issues of mutual interests, including ways to further boost bilateral trade.
