Need to resolve border dispute quickly: Modi

New Delhi, Sept 18 (IBNS): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday said clearly to China that border issue must be resolved quickly.

Delivering a joint statement after holding 90-minute one-on-one talk with Chinese President Xi Jinping, PM Modi expressed concerns on the prevalent border dispute.

He said, “I have expressed concern over what has happened on the borders and said that we need to solve the issue. We have to address the boundary question very soon.”

Modi said he has requested his Chinese counterpart to resume the stalled process of clarifying the Line of Actual Control.

He said, India suggested to China that clarification of Line of Actual Control would greatly contribute to our efforts to maintain peace & tranquility.

“Peace and stability in our relations and along borders essential,” PM said.

On the stapled visa issue, Modi said that he discussed India's concerns relating to China's visa policy & Trans Border Rivers.

“Early resolution would enhance mutual trust,” Modi said.

By and large Prime Minster expressed pleasure on the bilateral talks.

He said, “We also had good discussions on regional and international issues. A peaceful & stable neighborhood is in everyone's interest.”

“India and China have a shared interest in a peaceful and stable region, including peace, stability and prosperity Afghanistan,” he added.

Modi said, “This is a historic opportunity for the relationship between India and China, filled with vast possibilities. Both India and China are ancient civilizations and have equally historical ties. We also agreed to cooperate on our many shared interests at the global level.”

He expressed that, “If we r sensitive to r opportunities & challenges, then I am confident we will fulfill r responsibility to make it a great success.”

Regarding $ 200 Billion Chinese investment in India, he said, “5-year economic and trade development plan is an important step.

He added, “We feel we can increase our economic relations. I urged that our companies get easier market access & investment opportunities in China.”

Modi expressed concerns on trade imbalance between 2 nations.

He said, “I have expressed concern over trade imbalance.” He added, “We will cooperate in the field of railways. We will begin talks on civil nuclear cooperation. I am glad 2 Chinese industrial parks will be built in India.”

Thanking President Xi for opening new additional route to Kailash Mansarovar, Modi asserted that new route to Kailash Mansarovar will make the pilgrimage accessible by motorable road; offers safer alternative; shorter in duration.

He also expressed gratitude by saying, “I am glad that President Xi Jinping has come to India within months of our Government taking office.”
