NPP candidate attacked by miscreants in Nagaland
Kohima, Feb 17 (IBNS): Just 10 days are left for the assembly polls in Nagaland as poll violence incident has been reported from the poll bound state on Saturday.
According to the reports, a National People’s Party (NPP) candidate has been reportedly attacked by an unidentified miscreant in Nagaland’s Mokokchung town on Friday evening.
NPP candidate from 28 Koridang assembly constituency in Mokochung district T Chalukumba Ao was attacked by an unidentified miscreant was thwarted by the quick response of his bodyguard, a Nagaland police constable on Friday evening at Mokokchung town.
The incident was took place at New Market area of Mokokchung Town while the NPP the candidate had stopped at the market area to purchase from a shop.
While the NPP candidate entered at the shop after attending a prayer meeting at a Baptist church at Impur, one of two miscreants had allegedly fired upon him and the bodyguard from Nagaland police had retaliated and firing several rounds blank fire and unidentified miscreant had fled from the area.
Nagaland Director General of Police (DGP) Rupin Sharma said that, police has taken the matter seriously and started investigation into the incident.
The DGP also announced cash reward to the Nagaland police constable who saved life of the NPP candidate.
Nagaland is going to hold the assembly polls on February 27 and 195 candidates are in fray.
On the other hand, 14 cases have been registered in connection with election related offences in the poll bound state.
