Guwahati, Mar 17 (IBNS): Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal said that in last nine month, people's faith in the present BJP led government in Assam has been one of its remarkable achievements though the government has achieved success in other areas as well like starting the Indo-Bangla sealing work, curving corruption, expediting NRC updation exercise and wiping out the evils of syndicate raj in the State.

Talking exclusively to All India Radio, Sonowal said that the present State Government after taking over the reign of power on May 24, 2016 has set a goal for a corruption free, foreigners’ free, terrorism free and pollution free Assam.

The government with the help of its elected MLAs, government employees and people at large formed ‘Team Assam’ and working resolutely to achieve the goal within a stipulated time frame, said he.

Sonowal also said that after coming to power the present government has passed a bill on Ease of Doing Business and as a result of this several corporate houses have shown their inclination to invest in Assam and an amount of Rs. 5000 crore has already been invested which includes investment from Patanjali.

Moreover, Sonowal said that a tempo has been set in motion for unleashing development activities in the State and referred to oil royalty during the period of 2008 to 2014 which the State got after the Centre decided to release them at pre-discount rate for spearheading a new paradigm of development in the State.

He also said that after the present government came to power it has taken several key decisions like eviction of illegal encroachments from Kaziranga National Park and other reserve forests, opening of seven lakh bank accounts of the tea workers post demonetisation, start repairing work of embankments from December instead of the usual trend starting the repair work in May, launching Atal-Amrit Abhiyan, Chief Minister’s Samagra Unnayan Yojana, bringing some international sports events to Guwahati, Namami Brahmaputra to name a few.

Speaking on the Silapathar incident where an AASU office was vandalised including defacement of martyr column, Sonowal condemned the incident and said that the perpetrators of violence would be brought to book.

For permanent peace and development of Assam, he also appealed to all militant organisations to come to the main stream and engage in dialogue to solve all outstanding issues.

He also said that no leniency would be shown to any organisation engaged in subversive activities.

Terming ‘Cleanliness is next to Godliness’ Sonowal said that the present government has made much headway to implement ‘Swachh Bharat Campaign’ and make the state clean and defecation free.

Chief Minister Sonowal also expressed gratitude to the people of the State for extending all cooperation to the new dispensation in the State and vowed that in the coming days the government will take more welfare measures to benefit all sections of the people of the State.
