PM Modi chairs all-party meet over India's G20 presidency
New Delhi/UNI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday chaired an all-party meeting in Rashtrapati Bhawan to brief various political parties and chief ministers over India assuming the G20 Presidency.
A detailed presentation was made by the Ministry of External Affairs regarding various G20 events planned by the government over the next year, sources said.
The meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi was held to discuss aspects relating to India’s G20 Presidency.
Besides Prime Minister Narendra Modi, External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar, Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman attended the meeting from the government side.
Speaking at the meeting, PM Modi said: "India's G20 Presidency belongs to the entire nation and it is a unique opportunity to showcase the country's strengths to the entire world."
The Prime Minister also pointed that there is global curiosity and attraction towards India today, which further increases the potential of India’s G20 Presidency, the Ministry of External Affairs said.
Prime Minister emphasized the importance of teamwork, and sought the cooperation of all leaders in the organization of various G20 events.
He pointed out that the G20 Presidency would help showcase parts of India beyond the conventional big metros, thus bringing out the uniqueness of each part of our nation.
Highlighting the large number of visitors who would be coming to India during India’s G20 Presidency, the Prime Minister took note of the potential for promoting tourism and boosting the local economies of the venues where G20 meetings would be organized, the MEA added.
The meeting witnessed active participation from political leaders across the length and breadth of India.
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy, and Tamil Nadu's MK Stalin attended the meeting representing their states.
Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, his BJP counterpart JP Nadda, CPM general secretary Sitaram Yechury, CPI general secretary D Raja and TDP president Chandrababu Naidu also attended the meeting.
India formally assumed the presidency of G20 on Dec 1 from Indonesia making it the premier forum for international economic cooperation.
G20 is an intergovernmental forum of the world's 20 major developed and developing economies.
