Punjab cop's hand chopped off in Patiala as he attempts to enforce lockdown
Patiala/IBNS: In a horrific incident, a Punjab cop's hand was chopped off in Patiala district by some local people when the personnel tried to enforce COVID-19 lockdown on Sunday morning, officials confirmed.
The officer, identified as Assistant Sub-Inspector of Police Harjeet Singh, has been taken to the hospital.
Doctors are currently operating on him.

Two other policemen were also attacked in the Sanaur vegetable market of the district by the locals, a group of Nihangs.
Confirming the incident, Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab Police Dinkar Gupta tweeted: "In an unfortunate incident today morning, a group of Nihangs injured a few Police officers and a Mandi Board official at Sabzi Mandi, Patiala. ASI Harjeet Singh whose hand got cut-off has reached PGI Chandigarh."

He said a plastic surgeon has been deputed for surgery of the cop whose hand was chopped off.
"I have spoken to Director PGI who has deputed top Plastic surgeons of PGI for surgery, which just started. The Nihang group will be arrested and further action taken soon," they informed.

Punjab has already extended the state-wide lockdown to stem the spread of the deadly Novel Coronavirus till May 1.
After holding a meeting with his cabinet ministers, Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh had announced the decision.
"Given the seriousness of the situation arising out of Covid19, Cabinet has decided to extend lockdown & curfew till 1st May. These are difficult times & I appeal to all to #StayHomeStaySafe & strictly observe health safeguards as you have done so far, for which I am thankful," Singh had said on Twitter.
