Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewala joins Congress
Chandigarh/UNI: Popular Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewala on Friday joined the Congress in the presence of Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi and PPCC president Navjot Singh Sidhu.
Moosewala, 28, whose real name is Shubhdeep Singh Sidhu is likely to contest from Mansa or Maur in the upcoming assembly polls next year.
Welcoming the Punjabi singer into the party fold, Channi said it was a matter of pride and honour for the people of state that Moosewala, comes from a family with humble background. His father Bhola Singh is an ex-serviceman and mother Charan Kaur, Sarpanch of the village.
He said that Moosewala being a heart throb of millions of people would prove to be an asset for the party. He further added that Moosewala with his new assignment after entering the arena of politics would serve the people zealously, the way he earned name and fame in the world of music by the dint of hardwork.
"I am sure he will serve people to the best of his ability and will spread the message of Congress party at grass-root level," the CM tweeted.
Earlier, speaking on the occasion Punjab Congress chief Sidhu said that Moosewala created ripples in the Punjabi music world with his ever growing popularity, especially among the youth.
Sidhu tweeted "Champ" and said Sidhu-power has "squared" in the party "ek aur ek gyarah opposition 9/2/11" in a direct challenge to the BJP who he said "will now be scared of" after Moosewala joined the party.
He hoped his huge following will continue as he joins his parents' footsteps to serve the cause of mankind.
Expressing his gratitude to Channi and Sidhu, Moosewala said that he was delighted to join the Congress as "it is the only political party which offers a healthy platform specially to ordinary people with modest background to serve the society diligently".
