Srinagar, Feb 3 (IBNS): The Qazigund-Banihal railway tunnel would also be used for the vehicular traffic during inclement weather and snowfall, said an official handout on Friday.

“This would ensure timely movement of passengers and vehicles who often get stuck on the Srinagar-Jammu highway for days due to blockade during bad weather,” it said.

Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti, who is in New Delhi, took up the issue of using the Qazigund-Banihal railway tunnel with Minister for Railways Suresh Prabhu assuring all support and cooperation.

“Mr. Prabu agreed to the suggestion of using the railway tunnel for movement of vehicles during inclement weather. Modalities in this regard would be worked out shortly,” added the statement.

The tunnel has an inbuilt parallel road stretch which would be used for facilitating traffic movement on the highway.
