Sc disbands Madhya Pradesh chief justice panel to probe sexual harassment

| | Dec 18, 2014, at 07:18 pm
New Delhi, Dec 18 (IBNS) Observing that the high court chief justice had acted beyond his jurisdiction, the Supreme Court on Thursday disbanded a two-member probe panel formed by the Chief Justice of Madhya Pradesh High Court to investigate a charge of sexual harassment against a judge of the MP high court.

The SC held that another probe panel might be formed to probe the charges brought against a sitting judge brought by an additional woman judge in Guwalior.

"Chief Justice of MP High Court has travelled beyond his jurisdiction in constituting a two-judge panel to probe the role of judge in the case," SC said in its statement as quoted in media.

In July, the woman additional judge in Gwalior resigned alleging sexual harassment by the judge of the Madhya Pradesh (MP) high court..

The victim wrote in her complaint to the President of India, the Chief Justice of India (CJI) and the Union Law Minister that the MP high court judge allegedly asked her to “dance to an item song”.

The additional judge resigned on July 15 and wrote the complaint on Aug  1.
