Six including five policemen injured in Imphal blast, CM condemns, reward announced

Imphal/UNI: Six people, including five policemen, were injured in a powerful bomb blast at Thangal Bazar here today.

Chief Minister N Biren Singh visited the blast site and inspected the area. Later, he met the injured persons at the hospital.

The State government has announced a reward of Rs1 lakh for any information on today's blast and the blast which took place on November 2 last.

The Chief Minister said, “Planting of bombs at crowded civilian places is an act of cowardice and should be condemned by all. I take it as a reaction of the perpetrators resulting out of their frustration and disappointments on the visible changes towards a peaceful and developing society during the last two and half years. I wish a speedy recovery to those injured in the blast.”

A team of policemen led by an Additional SP were present at the busy market area when the blast occurred.

All the injured were rushed to Raj Medicity Hospital. Several vehicles parked in the area were also badly damaged. Police rushed in and cordoned off the area for investigation.

It was not yet known who were responsible for the blast. Police suspected that the blast could have been triggered off by planting an Improvised Explosive Device(IED).

The injured were identified as Lamabam Amarjit  of Langthabal(Addl.SP Ops. IW), Thongam Devan, (SI of CDO Iw Bazar Unit), Ningthoujam Ibotomba Singh  (ASI of City PS) Khuraijam,  Boney of Singjamei Chingamathak (ASI of CDO IW), Huirongbam Boboy of Thoubal Ningombam and a civilian Krishna Gurung.

Earlier on Sunday midnight three BSF personnel were also injured in a blast at Telipati, Imphal East.

Meanwhile, the State police department announced a cash reward of Rs 1 lakh  for giving information leading to the identification and arrest of culprit(s).

Both the blasts took place in public places/ highly crowded areas without any regard for public safety and the identity of the informers will be kept secret, it was added.
