Union govt likely to introduce Bill to end 'triple talaq' in winter session of Parliament
New Delhi, Nov 21 (IBNS): The Union government is likely to introduce the Bill to end 'triple talaq' in the upcoming winter session of Parliament, according to media reports on Tuesday.
The Supreme Court in August had put a stay on triple talaq for six months and asked the Parliament to legislate a law on this contentious practice in Muslim society.
The five member SC bench consisted of judges from different faiths and was led by then Chief Justice of India, Justice JS Khehar.
Triple talaq, widely practised in India, is a form of unilateral oral divorce to Muslim women by their husbands.
