UP govt launches free power scheme for poor in the state

Lucknow, Dec 26 (IBNS): Uttar Pradesh government launched a free household power connection scheme for the poor in the state in honour of former prime minister Atal Behari Vajpayee's birthday, according to media reports on Tuesday.

Atal Behari Vajpayee celebrated his 93rd birthday on Monday.

Under its power connection scheme, 'Prakash Hai to Vikas Hai', the Uttar Pradesh government plans to  provide 16 million connections by 2018-end, reports said.

On Monday, the state government released 93 prisoners lodged in various jails on the occasion of the former PM's birthday. These prisoners had served their jail term but could not be released as they were not able to pay the fines imposed on them, reports said.
