Kolkata, May 11 (IBNS): Violence has been reported from different parts of West Bengal, including Kolkata, on Sunday even as the people geared up to exercise their franchise in 17 seats in the state in the ninth and last phase of the Lok Sabha polls on Monday.

Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M)  Cossipore zonal committee secretary Kalyan Samajdar was allegedly attacked by the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) supporters in Kolkata's Cossipore area on Sunday.

He has been admitted to hospital.

In another incident, Congress candidate for the Chakdaha assembly seat by-poll in Nadia district, Samarlal Singha Roy, was attacked by miscreants on Sunday.

Roy's bodyguard was also attacked.

The attack  was allegedly conducted by TMC supporters.

Violence has been reported from Kudghat area in south Kolkata and Paikpara in the northern fringes of the city.

Trinamool candidate Indranil Sen  has been reportedly attacked in Baharampur.

Meanwhile, TMC has denied all charges of attacks leveled against party workers.

"CPI(M) and Congress have unleashed terror in Bengal. Now they are claiming to be victims," chairperson Mamata Banerjee was quoted as saying by party's official Twitter handle@AITCofficial.

After more than a month of polling, 41 constituencies will go to the polls in the ninth and last phase of voting for the Lok Sabha elections on Monday.

This is the fifth and final phase of polling in West Bengal.
