Drink coffee every morning? Doctor reveals why your liver may 'Thank You'

| @indiablooms | Aug 28, 2026, at 06:28 pm

Every morning, many people begin their day with a cup of coffee, often without realising that the popular beverage may offer potential benefits for liver health.

The liver is a vital organ that can be affected by lifestyle factors, alcohol consumption and other health conditions. Research has increasingly explored a possible link between regular coffee consumption and a lower risk of certain liver diseases.

Dr Saurabh Sethi, MD, MPH, a gastroenterologist trained at AIIMS, Harvard and Stanford University, recently shared a post on social media highlighting the potential liver-related benefits associated with coffee consumption.

“I've reviewed over 10,000 liver scans. Here is exactly why I drink coffee every morning,” Sethi wrote on Instagram.

He listed several findings associated with coffee consumption, including:

Coffee drinkers had a 49 per cent lower risk of death from liver disease.

Drinking two additional cups of coffee may be associated with a lower risk of cirrhosis.

Coffee consumption has been linked to a lower risk of liver cancer.

Both caffeinated and decaffeinated coffee may be associated with liver benefits, suggesting that compounds other than caffeine could play a role.
