Expert warns public over health dangers posed by 5G

Kolkata, Aug 01 (UNI): The fifth generation of mobile networks- 5G,promises to deliver ultrafast speed with astonishing connectivity, transforming the world around us into a smart one with boundless potential.

But this technology has potential health risk associated with EMFs (Electro-Magnetic-Fields), a renowned health expert said today.

'Human beings' EMFs is not compatible wih the EMFs sent out by scientifically created technology. 5G relies primarily on the bandwidth of the millimeter wave (MMW) which is known to penetrate 1 to 2 millimeters of human skin tissue and has been linked to various health problems,' said Dr Naresh Purohit, visiting professor at the Kolkata-based West Bengal University of Health Sciences School of Public Health.

The World Health Organisation in 2011 concluded that EMFs of frequencies 30KHz - 300 GHz are possibly carcinogenic to humans. The recent WHO Guideline-2016 states that there is a strong evidence that longterm exposure to certain EMFs is a risk factor for diseases such as certain cancers, Alzheimer disease and male infertility.

Dr Naresh Purohit, who presented a scientific report titled "Health and Safety Issues of 5G Technology" as a guest speaker at a national seminar on challenges in communication engineering at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kharagpur,  later talked to UNI here over phone.

Reading from his scientific report Dr Purohit said, deployment of 5G constitutes an experiment on humanity and the environment that is defined as crime under international law.

'EMFs sent out by 5G technology can literally change human DNA, cause multiple cancers, eye lens opacity and suppress reproductive function and immunity,'  Dr Purohit warned. He cautioned in his report that 5G rollout will significantly magnify health risks.
