Nongenarian dies of COVID-19, toll jumps to 12 in Tamil Nadu

Karur/Chennai/UNI: A nonagenarian, who was tested positive for coronavirus, died at the Karur Government Medical College Hospital on Tuesday, taking the number of COVID related deaths in Tamil Nadu to 12.

A bullet-in from the Health and Family welfare department in Chennai said the 96-year-old male, hailing from Dindugul, was admitted to the hospital at 1600 hrs on April nine.

He died at 0640 hrs this morning due to severe breathing problems without responding to treatment, it said.

District Collector T.Anbalagan, who earlier confirmed the death, said the body of the deceased would be buried by following the government protocols.

This is the first death reported due to coronavirus in the district.

With this, the number of coronavirus deaths in the state increased to 12.
