Mumbai: The BSE Sensex on Friday tanked 714.53 pts to close at 57,197.15 on profit booking by local operators.
The Nifty of National Stock Exchange (NSE) too slipped 220.65 pts at 17,171.95. The Sensex fell 380 pts at 57,531.95 in opening session.
During the day it was dropped nearly 777 pts at 57,134.72, days low, before closing at 57,197.15, sliding 714.53 pts from its previous close.
The Sensex registered days high and low at 57,689.86 and 57,134.72 pts respectively.
The Nifty recorded days high and low at 17,315.30 and 17,149.20 respectively.
The sectoral indices like Bankex, Metal, Finance and Heath Care dragged the market.
In scrips, SBI was a major loser, down 3.08 pc at 500.40 followed by Hind Unilever by 3.06 pc to Rs 2129.70, IndusInd Bank by 2.94 pc to Rs 959.90, Dr Reddy's Lab by 2.86 pc to Rs 4195 and Axis Bank by 2.68 pc to Rs 780.35.
The gainers were M& M by 0.98 pc to Rs 920.30, Bharti Airtel by 0.50 pc to Rs 738.45, Maruti Suzuki by 0.35 pc to Rs 7903.25 and Asian Paints by 0.26 pc to Rs 3164.75.
The Mid Cap declined by 0.71 pc and Small Cap by 0.38 pc. In 30 scrips, 6 advanced while 24 declined.
