Coronil: IMA 'shocked' over Patanjali's claim on tablet, seeks Union Health Minister's response

New Delhi: The Indian Medical Association has expressed 'shock' over 'blatant lie of WHO certification' for Patanjali's Coronil tablet, which the company has claimed to be an evidence-based medicine to combat COVID-19 disease.

Yoga guru Baba Ramndev's company Patanjali had claimed the tablet is the only evidence-based medicine to fight Covid-19, a disease which has hit nearly all the nations, including India, across the globe after supposedly emerging from China.

The IMA issued a statement and said: "Indian Medical Association is shocked to note the blatant lie of WHO certification for a secret medicine launched by an entrepreneur in the presence of Honourable Health Minister."

The IMA also demand for an explanation from Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan for his presence in the event where the tablet was launched.

“Being Health Minister of the country, how justified is it to release such falsely fabricated unscientific product to people of the whole country...can you clarify the time frame, time line for the so-called clinical trial of this said anti-corona product?" the health body asked the Minister.

"The country needs an explanation from the minister," it said.

Supposedly creating trouble for Patanjali, the World Health Organization recently tweeted to confirm: "@WHO has not reviewed or certified the effectiveness of any traditional medicine for the treatment #COVID19."

Patanjali CEO had Acharya Balkrishna had earlier tweeted, "We are delighted and proud to state that Coronil has been granted a CoPP license by DCGI, in accordance with the WHO GMP quality approvals."

" We want to clarify to avoid confusion that our WHO GMP compliant COPP certificate to Coronil is issued by DCGI, Government of India. It is clear that WHO do not approve or disapprove any drugs. WHO works for building a better, healthier future for people all over the world," read his another tweet.
