COVID-19 cases in Delhi can reach 5.5 lakh by July 31: Manish Sisodia
New Delhi/UNI: The community spread of COVID-19 in Delhi has not started yet, but the outbreak will increase rapidly in the coming days and the number of infected can touch 5.5 lakh by July 31.
After the meeting of the State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA) with Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal on Tuesday, Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia told reporters, ''The Union government officials present in the meeting told that there is no community spread of Coronavirus in Delhi yet. Therefore, there is no need to discuss this issue at the meeting yet.''
Talking to reporters after the meeting, Mr Sisodia said that by July 31, Corona cases in Delhi can reach 5.5 lakhs, which will require 80,000 beds.
The State Disaster Management authority's (SDMA) meeting with experts was held to understand the spread of COVID-19 in Delhi.
Baijal chaired the meeting, which was attended by Sisodia and Delhi Health Minister Satyendar Jain.
Delhi's COVID-19 contagion tally is inching to 30k with the figure now rising to 29,943 confirmed cases on Monday.
According to the Delhi state health bulletin released here on Monday, 1,007 fresh infections were reported in the past 24 hours in the capital.
Fatalities in the city have also witnessed an increase, with the toll now mounting to 874 deaths so far due to the pandemic.
