Kolkata/IBNS: In more worries for the eastern state of India, West Bengal on Saturday reported the biggest single-day spike in Covid-19 cases and fatalities as 743 people were infected with the deadly virus and 19 died from the contagion in the last 24 hours.

With the fresh cases, the state's overall Covid tally touched 21,231.

The toll now stands at 736.

14,116 of 21,231 patients have been discharged including 595 in the last 24 hours.

Amid the Covid-19 spike in West Bengal, the state government on Saturday said no flights from six Indian cities- Delhi, Mumbai, Pune, Nagpur, Chennai and Ahmedabad- will not land in the capital city of Kolkata from Jul 6.

The limitations on flight movement will remain imposed till Jul 19.

Earlier West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had urged the central government to stop train and flight operations to and from the five worst Covid-affected states.
