918 kilograms of multi-grain, nutritious, high-protein khichdi creates a new Guinness World Records feat

New Delhi, Nov 4 (IBNS): In a bid to build interest and demand for indigenous ingredients in the global markets, India today created a new Guinness World Records achieving by preparing 918 kgs of Khichdi at the World Food India 2017. 

The largest serving of rice and beans, the multi-grain, nutritious, high-protein Khichdi was prepared by a team of 50 people led by Chef Sanjeev Kapoor, the brand ambassador of The Great India Food Street, and Akshaya Patra.

The world-record ceremony was attended by Hon’ble Minister of Food Processing and Industries Harsimart Kaur Badal, Yoga Guru and the founder of Patanjali Group of Industries Baba Ramdev and the brand ambassador of The Great India Food Street Sanjeev Kapoor today at the India Gate lawns in New Delhi.

The minimum requirement to create a new world-record was 500 kgs.

Khichdi is the wonder staple food of India and is consumed across the length and the breadth of the country by rich and poor alike regardless of their caste, creed, colour, faith or religion.

Speaking to the press on this unique world-record Minister of Food Processing and Industries Harsimrat Kaur Badal, said “Khichdi symbolizes India’s great culture of unity in diversity. It is our message of unity to the world from the World Food India.”

It took over three months of planning and multiple trials in attempting 800 kgs of Khichdi, which was prepared in a giant kadhai of the capacity of 1000 litres and 7 feet in diameter, made of three layered stainless steel specially designed for this event. Indian foreign missions and Ministry of Food Processing Industries will popularise the ingredients and the recipe of Khichdi and ensure that it finds addition into A la carte in restaurants and kitchens around the world.

In his address to the press, Brand Ambassador of The Great India Food Street Chef Sanjeev Kapoor said, “The largest serving of Khichdi was made by using Indian ingredients such as Chawal, Moong Beans, Amaranth, Jowar, Bajra, Jo, Indian spices to make it nutritious and high protein. We promote international foods in India and it is our opportunity to showcase our superfoods to the world.”

The Khichdi was distributed among ambassadors and other dignitaries who were present at the world-record moment. The world-record has been achieved on the auspicious day of Gurupurab and to observe this occasion the Khichdi is also being distributed to people in slum areas in identified regions in Delhi by Akshaya Patra.
