Amid Narayan Rane arrest row Uddhav Thackeray's old dig at Yogi Adityanath goes viral

In the video, Thackeray is heard wanting to hit Yogi Adityanath with slippers.

"How is that any different from Narayan Rane's comment on slapping Mr Thackeray?" BJP leaders questioned.

Rane, who was arrested on Tuesday afternoon over his controversial remarks against Uddhav Thackeray and released after receiving bail late night, said that he approached the court against the cases filed against him by the Shiv Sena and added that court's ruling in his favour shows that there is rule of law in the country.

While addressing a press conference on Wednesday, Rane launched a scathing attack on the Shiv Sena and said it has made objectionable statements in the past, referring to Uddhav Thackeray's old dig at UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath where he allegedly said that Yogi Adityanath should be "beaten with chappals".

Taking a dig at Yogi Adityanath, Thackeray had said: "How can he be a Chief Minister? He is a yogi so he should give up everything and sit in a cave - he sits in the chief minister's chair and calls himself a yogi. He has to understand the ties between UP and Maharashtra."

"A priest from UP, Gagabhatt, came for Shivaji's coronation. And this Yogi came like a balloon filled with air. He wore chappals (slippers) while garlanding Shivaji. I felt like hitting him with the same chappal. Who are you to even stand before a statue of Maharaj?" the Maharashtra CM had said.

Many netizens on social media called out Thackeray and his Shiv Sena for "hypocrisy" and urged Yogi Adityanath to file a case against his Maharashtra counterpart over the three-year-old comment.
