India-Malaysia ties get a boost! Modi, Anwar Ibrahim discuss trade, defence, semiconductors
Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a bilateral meeting with Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim on the sidelines of the 18th BRICS Summit in New Delhi on Saturday, with the two leaders reviewing progress in bilateral cooperation across multiple sectors.
The discussions covered trade and investment, defence and security, semiconductors, infrastructure, the digital economy, energy, fintech, education, tourism and people-to-people ties.
Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim conveyed Malaysia’s concurrence with the establishment of an Indian Consulate General in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah.
Prime Minister Modi appreciated Malaysia’s continued support in strengthening ASEAN-India relations.
The two leaders also exchanged views on key regional and global issues of mutual interest and reaffirmed their commitment to further advancing the India-Malaysia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
Anwar Ibrahim is visiting India to attend the BRICS Summit in New Delhi.
Meanwhile, during his meeting with Vietnamese counterpart Le Minh Hung, Prime Minister Modi reviewed the progress made in bilateral ties, which were elevated to an Enhanced Comprehensive Strategic Partnership during the state visit of To Lam, General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam and President of Vietnam, to India in May 2026.
