Assam: Police arrest 44-year-old man for allegedly raping 9-year-old girl in Baksa

Guwahati/IBNS: A 44-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly raping a 9-year-old minor girl in Assam’s Baksa district.

The arrested person was identified as Brajen Kalita and police arrested him on Sunday night.

According to the reports, the minor girl was allegedly raped by the accused person at Pachim Jhargaon area under Tamulpur police station in Baksa district on June 25 while she went for doing fishing along with her cousin brother.

Following the incident, the victim’s family had lodged a complaint before the police.

Police had registered a case (no – 252/2021) under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act at Tamulpur police station and arrested the accused person on Sunday night.

A police official of Baksa district said that police had arrested the accused person from his home.

“The accused person and the victim girl are from the same village. We have also registered a case under the relevant section of the POCSO Act and will follow as per law,” the police official said.
