Assam sounds high alert ahead of Republic Day celebrations
Guwahati, Jan 19 (IBNS): Assam police sounded high alert across the state for probable militants attack ahead of Republic Day celebrations.
Assam police Headquarter has issued an alert notice to all district police and asked them to take adequate security measures ahead of Republic Day celebrations.
Recently, the Intelligence Bureau (IB) had alerted the Union home ministry and home departments of Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, Nagaland and Manipur government that, some insurgency groups of the region are planning to create untoward situation in the region during Republic Day celebrations.
“The militant groups including Paresh Baruah-led ULFA (I), NSCN (K), PDCK, NDFB (S), PLA, UNLFW, CorCom have been also planned to attack on security forces and trigger explosions in various government establishments including oil fields,” the IB report said.
Following the IB alerts, Assam police had issued high alert notice across the state.
Assam police ADGP (SB) Pallab Bhattacharya said that, some insurgency groups are trying to create untoward situation in the state, but Assam police ready to deal any situation.
“We have already alerted all district police to take adequate security measures,” the top Assam cop said.
Bhattachrya further said that, an armed group of ULFA (I) and NSCN (K) is trying to sneak into Assam from the Arunachal Pradesh side, where as the group had entered in the China bordering state from neighbouring Myanmar.
Recently, 9 crude-oil laden oil tankers were set ablaze by an armed group of Naga militant at Namchik area near Jagun in upper Assam’s Tinsukia district along with Arunachal Pradesh border.
