Banned tobacco products worth Rs 1 cr seized, two held in Maharashtra

Kolhapur, Mar 11 (UNI) Two trucks laden with banned tobacco products worth Rs one crore were seized on Monday near Ujalaiwadi Checkpost Naka on the Pune-Bengaluru National Highway.

According to police, a patrolling team of the National Highway Police intercepted two trucks, on the basis of suspicion and searched the vehicles.

Police team discovered a huge stock of tobacco products banned by the Maharashtra government, said police.

Police further said that the contraband and the trucks have been seized.
Truck drivers- Salman Amit Khan and Parvez Ajij Ullakhan-hailing from Ahmednagar and Aurangabad districts, have been arrested,added police.

Further investigation is underway to nab the owner of the seized contraband, police added.
