Bengal polls: Narendra Modi holds first mass rally in Kharagpur

Kolkata/Kharagpur, Mar 27 (IBNS): Slamming the Mamata Banerjee-led government, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday commenced his election campaign in West Bengal for the upcoming assembly polls.

"There was a time when Bengal was capital of industries, Left broke its back and the TMC government buried it.  From Saradha to Narada, the TMC party is full of corruption. Have you heard of any corruption since we have come to power?" Modi said while addressing a public meeting here at Kharagpur BNR Ground in West Midnapore district.

Promising a huge development in the state, if BJP is elected to power, Modi said, "I have a three-point agenda- development, development at a fast pace and development from all sides. Some people think how can the BJP form a government in Bengal. But if people of Bengal decide government can be formed here then easily it can be done in a moment."

Meanwhile, mocking the Congress-Left alliance in Bengal, PM said, "Congress and Communists have challenged the wisdom of Bengal and Bengal can not forgive people who challenge wisdom of Bengal. Surprisingly, they are fighting against each other in Kerala and together in Bengal."

During the rally, Narendra Modi stopped his speech for minutes after hearing Azaan (call to prayer) from a nearby mosque.

"Excuse me, Azaan was on, there should not be any problem in anyone’s prayers because of us. That is why I paused for few moments," he said while resuming his speech again.
