Bihar: Road mishap claims lives of five people, leaves 11 injured

Patna, Mar 25 (UNI) In a major road mishap, five people were killed and 11 others injured when their auto rickshaw was hit by a truck on National Highway 31 near Rani Sarai village under Bakhtiyarpur police station area in Patna district in the wee hours today.

Police said here that truck hit the auto rickshaw after its driver lost control over his vehicle due to high speed killing five people on the spot. Sources said, the mishap took place when some people were going to National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) plant in Barh.

The deceased were identified as Ram Babu Rai (26), a native of Athmalgola police station area in Patna district, Sujit Pal (33), a native of Vishrampur police station area in Jharkhand`s Palamu district, Sanjay Kumar Singh (40), a native of Raghunathpur police station area in East Champaran district, Chitranjan Singh (38), a native of Bhagwanpur village under Tekari police station area in Gaya district and Shivshankar Singh (55), a native of Garhari village under Chenari police station area in Rohtas district.

The critically injured were rushed to Patna Medical College and Hospital while some injured people were undergoing treatment at a local hospital.

Police said the truck driver made good his escape from the spot after abandoning his vehicle on the spot. The bodies had been sent for autopsy.
