Central govt committed to an early solution to Naga issue, says Minister Kiren Rijiju
New Delhi, Feb 1 (IBNS): Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Kiren Rijiju has appealed to the people of Nagaland to participate in the democratic process of elections, said a release from the ministry on Thursday.
In his message to the people of Nagaland, Rijiju said, “The Union Government is sensitive about the popular sentiment of Naga people and is committed to an early solution to their issue."
He assured the people of Nagaland that the Government will implement the solution as soon as it is reached.
He has also appealed to the political and civil society groups of Nagaland to participate in the upcoming Assembly elections in the state and to withdraw their declaration to boycott the democratic process.
The Nagaland Legislative Assembly election is scheduled be held on February 27, 2018, to elect members of the 60 constituencies in Nagaland. Counting of votes is scheduled to take place on March 3, 2018.
According to media reports, on Monday, 11 political parties in Nagaland decided not to issue party tickets or file nominations, to press for early solution to the seven-decade-old Naga insurgency issue before the polls.
At a meeting held in Kohima, the capital city of Nagaland, in presence of apex tribal bodies and civil society organisations, all national and regional political parties, including the Congress, BJP and the Naga People’s Front (NPF) declared that will not distribute party tickets either.
