Centre to introduce Bill to reinstate provisions to protect Dalits

New Delhi, Aug 1 (IBNS): The Centre is all set to introduce the Bill to reinstate the provisions to protect the Dalits from any sort of atrocities, media reports said on Wednesday.

According to media reports, the Bill is likely to be passed during the ongoing session of the Parliament.

The decision to reinstate the Bill was taken under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

"As per the amendments - preliminary enquiry shall not be required for registration of an FIR against any person and an arrest, if necessary, will not require any approval," The Times Of India reported.

The issue of Dalit protection fuelled massive protests across the country after the Supreme Court passed an order stating that arrests of accused can be made only after proper investigation into the matter.

Following the orders, the Dalit organisations feel the provisions to protest the community was diluted.

They threatened to take their protests to the streets if their demand for restoration of provisions is not met before Aug 9.
