Delhi/IBNS: Huge shipping containers have been placed in front of the the iconic Red Fort to create a wall of sorts ahead of the Independence Day celebrations on August 15.

Delhi Police has said the containers have been placed for security purposes. This year a large number of protesting farmers had reached the Red Fort during January 26 Republic Day celebrations and the situation had taken a violent turn.

Police said they were not ready to take chances this time.

In order to make the look match with the occasion, the containers will be painted and decorated, police have said.

Apart from the farmers' protest, the recent drone attacks is also a major concern for the police, they said.

Every year, the Prime Minister of India addresses the nation from the ramparts of the Red Fort.

On January 26, farmers protesting against the three new agriculture laws entered the Red Fort area and clashed with security forces.

In order to avoid the repetition of such an incident and terror threats, the police are on high alert.
