EC full team in Assam to review poll preparedness

Guwahati, Dec 21 (IBNS) : The full team of Election Commission of India (ECI)- led by Chief Election Commissioner Sayed Nasim Ahmed Zaidi arrived in Guwahati on a two-day visit to Assam on Monday to review the preparedness of assembly poll in the state to be held next year.

Along with Election Commissioners AK Joti and OP Rawat, Zaidi discussed with the representatives of various political parties including Congress, BJP, Asom Gana Parishad (AGP), All India United Democatic Front (AIUDF), Bodoland People’s Front (BPF), NCP, CPI, CPI(M).

Most of the parties had appealed to the Election Commission to hold the elections before Rongali Bihu, one of colourful festival of Assam celebrated during mid-April.

“We appealed to the ECI that the assembly poll to be held in the state in the month of April in two phases,” AGP leader Durga Das Boro said.

On other hand a team of All Assam Students Union (AASU) led by its Chief Advisor Dr Samujjal Bhattacharya had met the Election Commission and gave a memorandum for the poll.

The Chief Election Commissioner and ECs will meet all district election officers, SPs, DCs, top civil and police officials of the state on December 22.
