Fire on fifth floor of Apeejay House in Kolkata's Park Street, no casualties

Kolkata/UNI: A fire broke out in the fifth floor of the Apeejay House in Kolkata's Park Street on Tuesday.

A large contingent of fire brigade rushed to the scene with some eight fire fighting vehicles pressed into action trying to bring the blaze under control.

No casualties have been reported, so far.

Panic ran high as soon as some people noticed black smoke emanating from the 5th floor of the landmark building.

However, the security staff of the building immediately called the fire brigade services and eight fighting vehicles reached the spot to combat the flames.

There are many offices, including some private banks and shops, in the 5th floor of the building, which was evacuated immediately.

Firefighters broke window panes of the building and tried to bring the fire under control.

State ministers Firhad Hakim and Sujit Basu reached the spot after receiving the news.

Firhad said, Sujit Basu is looking into the matter.

The fire was brought under control after some efforts.

The fire at the Apeejay House happened a day after a clothing warehouse in the ground floor of Park Lane was gutted.

Meanwhile, a fire broke out in the house of Trinamool Congress MLA Madan Mitra in Bhabanipur today where no casualty was reported.
