Former West Bengal Transport Minister Ranjit Kundu passes away

Kolkata, Aug 19 (IBNS): Senior leader of the Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) and former Transport Minister during the Left regime in West Bengal, Ranjit Kundu, on Sunday passed away in a Kolkata hospital, reports said.

According to reports, Kundu was suffering from lung infection and massive breathing trouble and he died at the age of 74 at a privately-run hospital at EM Bypass area at 1:10 pm.

Senior leader of the Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU) and three-time CPI-M MLA from Naihati Vidhan Sabha constituency, Ranjit Kundu, became state Transport Minister following the death of Subhas Chakraborty in 2009.

Kundu won West Bengal assembly polls from Naihati constituency in 1996, 2001 and 2006, and he lost to Trinamool Congress (TMC) candidate Partha Bhowmick in 2011's election.

Left leadership expressed deep condolences on the death of former cabinet minister Ranjit Kundu.

Kundu is survived by his wife, son and daughter.
