Panaji, Apr 1 (UNI) Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) President Girish Chodankar on Monday filed nomination papers for North Goa Lok Sabha seat.

He is the second candidate to file nomination papers from the seat.

Earlier, Union Minister for AYUSH (Independent Charge) Shripad Naik had filed his nomination papers as Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate.

While filing nomination papers, Chodankar was accompanied by former Chief Minister Pratapsingh Rane and Leader of the Opposition in the State Legislative Assembly Chandrakant 'Babu' Kavlekar.

Speaking to reporters after filing the nomination papers, Chodankar said during his election campaign he would highlight the failures of his rival candidate who was four-time MP.

"During my campaign I will highlight how Shripad Naik, who has been North Goa MP for 20 years has miserably failed on raising the issues of Goa in Parliament," he said.

The Congress leader said failure of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) led governments at the Centre and in the state would be key areas of his campaign.

Chodankar has also started a bicycle tour of the constituencies as part of his poll campaign. Lok Sabha elections in Goa are to be held on April 23, 2019.
