H1B relief to Indians, Trump administration makes no change in visa policy

Washington/New Delhi, Jan 9 (IBNS): Giving a sigh of relief to the Indian techies, the US on Tuesday said President Donald Trump administration is seeking no change in the H1B visa policy that will force the visa holders to leave the country, media reports said.

Though earlier the US sought to modify the visa policy, under pressure from India and other advocacy groups, the Trump administration relented and avoided effecting the changes.

The change would have forced all Indians, who are not holding green card or have applied for a green card, to leave the US. This could have landed around seven lakh Indians techies in trouble.

The change in the visa policy would have affected China mostly after India.

The thought of bringing a change to the visa policy sprung from Trump's "Buy Americans, Hire Amercians" policy that he had professed and proposed before getting elected to the President's post.

Unveiling a protectionist policy, Trump promised during the Presidential campaigns in 2016 that he will make "America great again" if he is voted to power.
