Haryana: Newborn dies after ambulance gets stuck in Congress rally, state govt orders probe

Sonipat, Aug 23 (IBNS): The Haryana government on Thursday ordered a probe into the incident in which a newborn baby had died in Sonipat district after the ambulance carrying the child got stuck in a cycle rally, which was organised by the Congress, media reports said.

The incident occurred on Wednesday.

Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar has ordered an inquiry into the incident.

Haryana Health Minister Anil Vij has been quoted by The Indian Express as saying, "The Chief Minister has ordered an investigation by Superintendent of Police (SP) Rohtak. I have ordered the Directorate General of Health Services to file a report today after a preliminary investigation. We will take strict action in the case."

A First Information Report (FIR) has been lodged in the case under Section 304A and 177 (Motor vehicles Act) at a police station in Kundli.

The rally was called by state Congress chief Ashok Tanwar.

The ambulance staff alleged that he pressed the siren multiple times but with no effect.

However, the allegations were denied by Tanwar.

The Congress leader said the roads were cleared immediately after he came to know about the newborn baby.

Tanwar said no one should do politics over the matter.
