New Delhi/IBNS: The violence following a communal clash over a religious procession in Haryana's Nuh has spilled over to the neighbouring Gurugram, which is about 20 kilometers away from the national capital Delhi, media reports said.

Several shops and shanties at a residential complex at sector 70 in Gurugram were torched.

To prevent further escalation of the volatile situation in Gurugram, the sale of loose fuels have been stopped by the administration.

Some multinational corporations have advised their employees to opt for work from home.

On Monday, violence broke out during a religious procession in Nuh, just 50 km from Delhi, following what many said after an objectionable video went viral.

As a mob attacked the procession with stones, the 2,500-plus participants rushed into a temple to take shelter.

At least five people were killed, and over 70 received injuries amid the massive violence outside the temple that erupted during the religious procession.

The violence escalated as the evening progressed with a mosque being torched post-midnight, and more than a hundred vehicles vandalised as mobs went on rampage in Nuh and neighbouring Gurugram.

Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar, who has ensured strict action, said around 116 people have so far been arrested in connection with the violence.
