In Rajya Sabha, Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad says BJP is good at repackaging ideas
Newe Delhi, Feb 5 (IBNS): Following the maiden speech by BJP president Amit Shah in the Rajya Sabha on Monday, veteran Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad, in his speech said that the BJP government has been renaming schemes that had been started by the earlier Congress-led UPA government, according to media reports.
He said that the former Jan Awshadi Scheme has been renamed as the Prime Minister's Jan Awshadi Scheme while the National Child Programme, started by the UPA government in 2008, was renamed the Beti Bachaao Programme.
Azad said that the Modi government has failed to live up to its promises made in 2014 wherein the BJP had promised 50 per cent profit on their produce, media reported. He also said that it was promised that petrol, diesel and gas prices would be reduced.
"Gas cylinders that used to cost Rs. 300 earlier, now cost Rs. 800," said the senior Congress leader.
Rupees 550 crore have been spent only on publicising schemes, after an RTI was filed, said Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad in the Rajya Sabha, according to media reports.
Criticising the BJP government over its policies regarding security and safety for women, Azad said that the UPA government 'was sensitive enough to bring a strict law in place during the Nirbhaya case and said the current BJP government was not doing the same'.
"Nobody knows repackaging better than the BJP government," the media quoted Azad as saying on Monday at the Rajya Sabha.
