New Delhi/IBNS: As India's Neeraj Chopra scripted history with his javelin throw of 87.58 metres to clinch the first gold medal ever won by an Indian in the track-and-field event at the Olympics games, Indigo has announced unlimited free travel for the "Sona Munda" for a year.

"You have shown us what hard work, resilience and passion can achieve and I am sure you will be a torch bearer for future Indian athletes. Well done, Neeraj," said Ronojoy Dutta, CEO of Indigo.

Apart from Indigo, the Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) has awarded a Golden Pass to Chopra allowing him to travel in any state corporation's bus for life in the state for free.

Meanwhile, industrialist Anand Mahindra has promised to gift Chopra a Mahindra XUV700 - the Indian automaker's upcoming product in its SUV line.

"We are all in your army, Baahubali," Mahindra tweeted, along with a grid photo showing the Olympian and the fantasy action film hero, Baahubali, leading an army on horseback.

Neeraj, who won the Arjuna Award, clinched the Commonwealth Games gold medal in 2018, creating hopes of Olympic triumph and he did not let the country down.

Neeraj’s fine success was a pleasant surprise for the country. Though everybody expected a podium finish by the former Asian and Commonwealth champion, they were not  sure that it would be a gold. But the young Junior Commissioned Officer of Indian army rose to the occasion to leave behind his superior rivals keeping his cool when it mattered most.
