Pampore: A Jammu and Kashmir girl from Pulwama entered her name in the  India Book of Records for making a colourful portrait of the traditional firepot ‘Kangri’.

20-year-old Shariqa Gulzar calligrapher from the Tral area   is a student of Radiology at a Paramedical Institute in the Bijbehara area of Anantnag district.

From her early years, she has been  inclined to calligraphy, mandala art and sketching.

Talking to Kashmir Reader, Shariqa said she has been encouraged by her parents in this field, especially her brother.
“My brother has encouraged me a lot. I am very much thankful to him and my parents for supporting me,” she said.

She has drawn a colourful picture of a Kashmiri firepot on a small sheet using coloured pens.

“I learned about the India Book of Records and applied for it. The picture was approved in May 2023 and the certificate of appreciation was issued recently,” she said, adding that this field has a good scope.
