Bengaluru, Sept 3 (IBNS): The Congress continued to maintain its lead over the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) as the counting of votes for Karnataka Urban Local Body polls is underway, media reports said.

According to News 18, out of total 2,664 seats, the Congress has won 982 seats leaving behind 927 for the BJP.

The Janata Dal (Secular) has won 375 seats so far.

However, the BJP is leading in three municipal corporations of Shimoga, Mysore and Tumkur.

All political parties had contested the election separately.

The Congress and the JD(S), which are now running the Karnataka government together, might stitch a post-poll alliance, report said.
