Srinagar, Apr 15 (UNI) Traffic was restored on Srinagar-Gumri road leading to famous tourist resort of Sonamarg in central Kashmir after remaining suspended for over four winter months due to accumulation of several feet of snow.

“Light Motor Vehicles (LMVs) were on Monday allowed to move on Srinagar-Sonamarg road after the snow clearance operation was completed on 12 km long Gagangeer-Sonamarg stretch,” an official said.

However, he said the movement of traffic on the road shall be regulated as per the instructions of the transport and traffic department under strict preventive measures.

“The road shall remain open from 1100 hrs to 1500 hrs on fair weather days only,” he said.

He said the road shall be closed at the time of avalanche warning and night stay shall not be allowed till the restoration of electricity. “Efforts are on to restore electricity to the tourist resort,” he added.
